Location: Peterborough

We are seeking a skilled Service Contract Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in data centre and copper/ fibre cabling and be proficient in various engineering tools and software.

Employees receive a contract uplift of £4,866 per annum and a car allowance of £4,000 per annum in addition to their base line salary. Overtime is paid at 1.5 x basic hourly rate.

The successful candidate will work a four on, four off rotation, working a 10-hour night shift between the hours of 18:00-04:00 / 20:00-06:00.

Essential Skills and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Data Centre technologies/solutions; cold-aisle containment, power, cooling, resilient solution design
  • Experience in the installation of multi-disciplined cabling systems.
  • Experience of working in high profile data centre and time pressured environments
  • The ability to confidently communicate and present at all levels
  • Fibre splicing
  • ILM and OTDR testing of MM and SM fibre networks
  • Fibre and Copper Patching and documentation
  • Knowledge of the Data Communications sector
  • IT Literate – Microsoft office suite
  • Live within 1 hours travel of customer site
  • Full clean UK driving license.

Responsibilities

  • Provide resource to cover patching, testing, fault fixing and installations
  • Be proactive and able to address and resolve issues independently
  • Racking and decommissioning of hardware, e.g., servers, switches, miscellaneous devices
  • Installation of “plug and play” managed power strips (no electrical terminations to be undertaken)
  • On call (OOH) as part of a rota – 60 minutes response time
  • Attain and maintain a level of knowledge and capability of SpliceGroup solutions to perform break-fix and small project implementation on both copper and fibre, (including fusion splice & test)
  • Maintain documentation
  • Compilation of statistics and analysis of data
  • Report writing
  • Manage stock levels of all materials on site
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and best practice health & safety and environmental requirements on site.

Qualifications

  • Maths and English GCSE Grade C / 4 or above
  • Formal training in fibre splicing and testing, City & Guilds is desirable but not essential
  • Formal training in copper structured cabling, City & Guilds is desirable but not essential.
